North America Accreditation Body (NAAB) was established by a group of experienced professionals with extensive expertise in conformity assessment, auditing, inspection, evaluation, certification, and accreditation-related activities.

NAAB operates as an independent professional accreditation organization, founded on the fundamental principles of impartiality, competence, independence, confidentiality, transparency, and professional integrity.
Our Accreditation Framework
NAAB has established and maintains an accreditation framework with reference to the applicable requirements and principles of ISO/IEC 17011:2017 – Conformity assessment — Requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies.
ISO/IEC 17011 specifies requirements concerning the competence, consistent operation, and impartiality of accreditation bodies assessing and accrediting conformity assessment bodies. The standard covers accreditation activities including, among others, management system certification, product, process and service certification, personnel certification, inspection, testing, calibration, proficiency testing, validation and verification.
NAAB applies these principles within its applicable accreditation schemes and scopes, supported by defined assessment processes, competent personnel, impartial accreditation decision-making, and appropriate organizational controls.
Our Commitment
NAAB believes that effective accreditation requires more than the application of written standards. It requires technical competence, practical experience, impartial assessment, independent decision-making, qualified personnel, and consistent accreditation processes.
Accordingly, NAAB has developed its organizational structure, assessment procedures, competence requirements, impartiality mechanisms, and accreditation decision-making processes around these fundamental principles.
International Accreditation Principles
NAAB is committed to maintaining its accreditation activities in alignment with applicable internationally recognized conformity assessment standards and relevant international accreditation practices.
Where applicable to a specific accreditation scheme or scope, NAAB takes into consideration relevant technical requirements, policies, and normative documents developed within the international accreditation community.
For transparency, NAAB does not claim IAF MLA Signatory status. IAF membership and IAF MLA Signatory status were specific forms of participation and mutual recognition within the former IAF framework and should not be represented as equivalent to conformity with ISO/IEC 17011:2017.
The former International Accreditation Forum (IAF) ceased its operations on 1 January 2026, following the establishment of Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, which commenced full operations on the same date and established a new Multilateral Recognition Arrangement.
NAAB therefore presents its accreditation status transparently and does not represent itself as a member or signatory of an international recognition arrangement unless such status has been formally granted and officially published by the relevant organization.

Accreditation and Certification:
Certification is the provision by an independent conformity assessment body of written assurance that a product, service, process, system, person, or other specified subject meets defined requirements.
Accreditation is the formal recognition, by an accreditation body, of the competence of a conformity assessment body to perform specified conformity assessment activities within a defined scope.
Accreditation is therefore scope-specific. The recognition and acceptance of an accreditation or certification result may depend on the applicable regulatory, contractual, tender, customer, and destination-market requirements.
NAAB Logo
The NAAB logo and accreditation marks are protected trademarks and may only be used in accordance with NAAB’s applicable rules and authorization requirements.
Organizations wishing to demonstrate certification should use the certification mark or certificate issued by their respective certification body in accordance with the applicable rules.
Transparency
NAAB is committed to providing accurate and transparent information concerning its accreditation framework, accreditation scopes, applicable standards, assessment processes, and international recognition status.
NAAB does not claim any accreditation, membership, recognition, or mutual-recognition status that has not been formally granted and officially published by the relevant competent organization.
Establishment and Institutional Foundation of NAAB
North America Accreditation Body (NAAB) was established through the collaboration and integration of the expertise and experience of two Canadian institutions: the Standards Center of Canada Accreditation Body (SCC-AB) and the Accreditation of certification bodies Association.
This institutional foundation brought together complementary knowledge, technical expertise, and practical experience in accreditation, conformity assessment, auditing, inspection, and certification.
The combination of these capabilities contributed to the development of a structured accreditation framework designed to support competence, impartiality, consistency, and professionalism in the assessment and accreditation of conformity assessment bodies.
Building on this foundation, NAAB is committed to the continuous improvement of its accreditation processes, the application of relevant international standards and accreditation principles, and the promotion of confidence in conformity assessment activities.
